Born 1964, lives in Stockholm
Jon Brunberg has worked as an artist since 1996 and has exhibited frequently in Sweden and abroad. He is currently working on a series of projects in which he takes on complex issues such as utopia, conflict and power.
One project is The Polynational War Memorial, which is an interdisciplinary art project that will result in an architectonic proposal for a global memorial for all wars since 1945. Another work is the internet-based work Power as Metaphysics and Measurable Unit. Jon Brunberg has also produced more intimate works, for example the interactive video installation Disjunction (and nowhere to turn to), which has been shown in Stockholm, Berlin and San Francisco, and a series of video- and audio works, such as 101 Years and 19 Years, which both use a political map to display certain events at a high speed.
Recent exhibitions includes the group exhibitions PC-an exhibition about intolerance, which is currently running at The Living History Forum in Stockholm (2011-2012), and Data Deluge at Ballroom Marfa in Marfa, Texas (2012), the solo exhibition 19 years + one tool for measuring power in the Studio at Moderna Museet (2010), Loss at Wanås in Knislinge (2008), Changing Matters at Naturhistoriska Riksmuseet in Stockholm (2008), A Memorial and a City at Clarion Hotel in Stockholm (2008) and [C]artography at Crawford Art Gallery in Cork (2007).
Jon Brunberg was a member of the artist group and experimental art space SOC.Stockholm from 1999 to 2005, and intitiated during that time the internet-aided art project The Utopian World Championship together with Annika Drougge. He has a MFA from Konstfack University College for Art, Craft and Design in Stockholm. Beside of his artistic practise he is an independent writer, web-developer and teacher.
